Alcatel-Lucent and BT have announced today they were able to reach broadband speeds of 1.4 terabits per second. To put that in perspective, that's the equivalent of 44 HD films per second.
Although this generation of ultra-fast download speeds won't reach consumers for several years, it's positive news for the future of online video advertising. While broadband speeds are pretty good across much of the UK, there are some areas, such as Lincolnshire or Aberdeenshire which are currently putting up with very slow speeds. Residents should be relieved that, although the technology isn't available yet, it is certainly on the way.
For online video advertising in particular the news should be greeted with a roundly positive reaction. Better broadband speeds across the country means higher quality, high definition branded videos and experiences can be distributed to viewers, who won't have to worry about their allowance being eaten up by adverts.
We're looking forward to fabulous quality, HD, branded video content for everyone.
